FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Introducing Toontastic, a Creative Learning tool for the iPad from Launchpad Toys
San Francisco, Calif. – January 18, 2011 – Launchpad Toys (http://launchpadtoys.com), an educational software startup launched out of Stanford University, announces the release of Toontastic, a creative learning tool for the iPad that teaches storytelling skills through playful cartoon creation. Toontastic enables kids as young as five to create, capture, and share their imaginative stories with friends and family around the world. Developed in partnership with Stanford’s School of Education and Zeum: San Francisco’s Children’s Museum, Toontastic was recently honored as a Finalist in the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop’s 2010 Mobile Learning Prize.
Toontastic empowers the artist, writer, and producer in every child while teaching key storytelling principles that promote creativity at a young age. Toontastic’s drawing tools bring kids’ wildest ideas to life alongside virtual playsets chock full of pirates, princesses, far away galaxies, and many other characters and settings that spark the imagination. Cartoons can be narrated, animated, set to music, and then shared online via ToonTube, Toontastic’s Global Storytelling Network for Kids, by Kids.
“Watching young children play with puppets, dolls, and action figures, we were inspired by the incredible stories they produced at such early ages – stories that would be the envy of many Hollywood scriptwriters,” said Launchpad Toys co-founder Andy Russell. “Storytelling is a critical creative skill, but it’s also a powerful tool for social learning. By enabling children to share their cartoons online, we’re building a global community where kids can learn about other cultures, customs, and lifestyles through stories created by their peers around the world.”
Newsweek’s July 10th cover story, “The Creativity Crisis”, featured evidence that creativity has declined significantly in America and that TV and video games may be partly to blame. Education experts propose that Creative Learning tools like Toontastic show great potential for boosting creativity inside and outside of the classroom. “Kids and parents will agree: Toontastic is fantastic!” said Michael Levine, Executive Director of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop. “Toontastic offers a creative and engaging educational experience that builds a critical new bridge between informal and formal learning.”
Toontastic is available for the iPad for $2.99 in the Education Section of the iTunes App Store.
